Your leadership in the right shape
Suppose you want to renovate your house. Due to an expanding family, you need more space, or your office needs a makeover. How would you approach that?
You probably start with an idea of the end state. You then decide where you are going to tear down a wall. Where you will have the new wall cupboard built. And while you’re at it, you also choose a nice armchair. To read that management book later, or listen to your favorite podcast…
And then? Right, then you’re going to implement your plan!
Changing organizations works essentially the same. Yes, okay, it is often more complex than a renovation – but the steps are the same. You start with the end in mind: your vision for change. Then, after a good analysis, you determine your strategy. And then comes the most important thing: executing your plan.
Remarkably, many organizations neglect this last step. Because they don’t know exactly HOW to do that, renew daily. Or because it is expected that a flaming change speech during the New Year’s drinks will automatically lead to change.
It does not. And that’s a pity. Because: you change or innovate for a reason. So it is a shame if your good plan does not go further than, so to speak, hanging new cultural values at the coffee machine. You want it to come to life in daily practice!
